MEETING OUR COMPASSION CHILD

On September 16th we had the privilege of
meeting the child we sponsor through Compassion
International --- Roger Gonzales Choque.
A bit of history...we had been sponsoring a boy in
Colombia for several years, but he moved out
of the program, and we were contacted to see
if we wanted to sponsor another child.
We requested someone from Peru, and were
thrilled to be given a boy from the nearby
pueblecito of Espiritu Santo, just above Chiguata,
about a 45 minute drive from Arequipa.

We meet Roger, his mother, and little brother, Chris Alexander
and give him a T-shirt from Montana

Gloria with Roger's mom, who gave her
an unexpected gift of a hand-knit afghan!

We tour the Compassion Center
The program here has an incredible impact
on this community...135 kids attend 3 days a week,
many from the school pictured in the background

Roger proudly shows us his classroom
Here is the daily schedule...
Jehovah is my rock, my fortress, my liberator;
my God is my strong protection, in Him do I trust;
my shield, He defends me and keeps me safe.
Psalm 18:2
The kids learn in four different areas ---
spiritual, cognitive, physical and social

With the head of the project, Paul

This is the host church where the
Compassion Center is located
Sandy talks with the Pastor, who shows
us the inside of the building which will seat 100+
This church has been in the community for 13 years,
but the Compassion program only for two

After the tour, we all go out to lunch....
this was probably the nicest restaurant
in town, and we were accompanied by a
dog that sat under the table, and chickens
roaming around the dining area!
We bring photos of our family and Montana
to show Roger and his family

Back home, we display the awesome
gift Roger's mother made us
She also hand-knit a chullo hat for Sandy
