TRIP TO LIMA

We were invited to join a vanload of folks
from our church, Cristo Redentor,
to go to Lima for the Diocesan Synod.
On the way we saw many interesting
sights, all new to us!

Puerta Inka, by the coast,
boasts Incan ruins that are
very well-preserved.

Sandy stands by the opening to
a storage type cellar, built into the earth.

If you can believe it, fish were processed here,
then sent by runners to the Incan center of Cuzco.
A team of relay runners took turns getting the
Incas fresh fish!  There is an elevation gain of
12,000 feet from the coast to Cuzco!

The rocky coastline is impressive.

We stop by a tower overlooking
some of the famous Nazca lines.
We think an aerial view from a plane
or helicopter would be better!

By a small fishing village where one
of Sandy's coworkers at the school
from last year currently works.

Pelicans are strange looking birds!

This parrot resides at a roadside gas station.

Outside our room in Chala, where we spent
the night going AND coming back.
These waves look beautiful, but
they were very noisy while
trying to sleep!  What does a tsunami
sound like, anyway !?!

In Lima at the Diocesan Synod,
Padre Juan Carlos and Maria
settle in for a business session.

Our good friend Juan Ayala
is in attendance also.

On the way home, a simple question of
"What is that castle?" send our driver,
Padre Juan Carlos, over to investigate.

Turns out it is a deserted castle from the 1800's,
but with parts of it still in amazing shape!  We
got a "tour" from some local children who lived
nearby and wanted to show us around
(and collect a few coins in the bargain!).

Peruvian sunsets are always awesome!
