Texas construction team arrives

The last week of July, a short-term team from Texas
arrives to help with the construction of a new Anglican
mission church in Villa Ecologica, a resettlement village
above Arequipa. The drive up provides spectacular scenery.

The current building where services are
being held most Sunday afternoons can
be seen behind the newer construction.

The inside of the current mission,
which can only hold up to 25 folks.

Construction here is with sillar blocks,
as these are readily available from nearby
quarries (see one of our earlier blogs
for upclose pictures of one).
Arequipa is known as the "White City"
because of all the construction done with sillar.

After the blocks are lined up,
cement is poured between them.
Kevin helps with this process.

Next step is to smooth the grouting.

Time out for a hike above the church property.
Chachani peeks over the desert area near Villa Ecologica.

There are hopes eventually to add a
medical clinic and school on the land.
We found the painting on the water tower interesting:
translated "High zone of volcanic danger!" Hmmm.......
